The YR Alumni Network is pleased this year to have sponsored six winners of scholarships to attend the Young Republican Leadership Conference held May 1-4th in Washington, D.C. The YR Alumni Scholarship winners of 2007 and 2008 were saluted during a reception hosted at the American Gas Association on Capitol Hill. Congressman Mickey Edwards, himself a former Oklahoma State YR Chair and YRNF Co-Chairman, presented his latest book “Reclaiming Conservatism.” Those selected were: Eric Walligura of Houston, TX won the Lee Atwater Leaders’ Scholarship; Natalie Miller of Woodbury, MN won the Audrey Merkin Leaders’ Scholarship; Cynthia Mallette of Overton, TX won the John Ashbrook Chairman’s Scholarship; Jennifer Shoemaker of Lanesville, IN won the Richard Jacobs Chairman’s Scholarship; Kasey Flint of Shepherd, TX won the Herbert Wharburton Chairman’s Scholarship; and Olivia Nesterowitz of St. Charles, IL was chosen to receive the Illinois’ State Scholarship. Louise (Replogle) Galt served as Co-Chairman of the Young Republican National Federation (YRNF) from 1949 to 1951 while Harry Truman was President. Like many YRs, Louise has led a full-life of personal and professional accomplishment. Louise's professional career included her election as President of associated women students of the University of Montana and upon graduation in 1946, election to Fergus County Attorney making her only the third woman in U.S. history to be selected as a Prosecutor -- 25 years before the "Feminist Movement."
